Qualifications, Roles & Responsibilities:

To practise as an IPP, pharmacists must be GPhC-registered, complete the Independent Prescribing qualification, and demonstrate advanced clinical skills. Responsibilities include prescribing, conducting reviews, managing long-term conditions, and supporting safe prescribing practices.

Average Salary for IPPs in the UK:

  • Locum IPPs
    £30 – £50 per hour (with higher rates for urgent or specialist cover)
  • Salaried IPPs
    £47,126 – £63,862 annually (NHS Band 8a–8b, Agenda for Change)
