Locum Band 7 Emergency Medicine Pharmacist – NHS Hospital in Kent

Hunter AHP have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join the Emergency Department team at a NHS hospital in Kent. 

Location: NHS Hospital, Kent
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: Ongoing (possibility to go permanent upon review)
Working Pattern: 3, 4 or 5 days per week (flexible)
Hourly Rate: £28 – £33 per hour (DOE)
Payment: Weekly

About the Role:
The post holder will be providing advanced clinical pharmacy services to a varied patient population. You will work closely with clinicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure safe and effective use of medicines in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert clinical input and medicines optimisation for patients in the Emergency Department

  • Review and manage the medication needs of complex and acutely unwell patients

  • Supervise and support two dedicated pharmacy technicians based in the ED

  • Lead on medicines-related policy and service development within the department

  • Drive forward a quality improvement project aimed at improving prescribing and medicines use across the care group

  • Attend and contribute to monthly ED care group governance and medication safety meetings

  • Ensure high standards of clinical documentation and compliance with local and national guidelines

  • Participate in staff education, training and audit activities where appropriate

 

Department & Team Structure:

  • You will join a supportive multidisciplinary team in the Emergency Department, including senior clinicians, nurses, and allied health staff

  • Two pharmacy technicians are already embedded in the department to support with medicine histories and administration

  • Close working relationships with the inpatient pharmacy and clinical governance teams

 

Ideal Candidate:

  • GPhC-registered Pharmacist with significant NHS hospital experience

  • Prior experience working in emergency medicine, acute medicine or similar fast-paced clinical settings

  • Confident in independent clinical decision-making

  • Strong communication and leadership skills

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team
