Locum Band 8a Clinical Pharmacist – NHS Hospital in Hertfordshire

 

Hunter AHP have an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled Band 8a Clinical Pharmacist to join the pharmacy team at a leading NHS hospital trust in Hertfordshire. This role is ideal for a confident and experienced pharmacist seeking a dynamic position covering a variety of wards.

 

Location: NHS Hospital, Hertfordshire

Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: Ongoing
Working Pattern: 3, 4 or 5 days per week (flexible)
Hourly Rate: £33 – £37 per hour (umbrella, dependent on experience)
Payment Frequency: Weekly

Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be working as part of a well-established pharmacy team providing clinical services across multiple wards. You must have previous clinical pharmacy experience within an NHS hospital setting and be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-level clinical pharmacy services to a range of wards including medical, surgical, elderly care and/or specialty areas

  • Review inpatient prescriptions to ensure safe, effective and evidence-based use of medicines

  • Support junior pharmacists and liaise regularly with medical and nursing staff to optimise treatment plans

  • Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and provide expert medicines advice to clinical teams

  • Contribute to medicines reconciliation, discharge planning and patient counselling

  • Ensure documentation is accurate and in line with trust policy and regulatory standards

  • Assist with audit, policy development, and service improvement initiatives as needed

Requirements:

  • GPhC-registered Pharmacist

  • Minimum of 6–12 months’ clinical experience in an NHS hospital setting (Band 7 or above)

  • Sound knowledge of general medicine and clinical guidelines

  • Ability to work across multiple specialties and adapt to different ward environments

  • Strong communication and teamworking skills
