Locum Band 7/8a Mental Health Pharmacist – NHS Hospital, Manchester

Hunter AHP are seeking an experienced Mental Health Pharmacist to join an established NHS hospital service in Manchester on a locum basis. This is a great opportunity for a clinical pharmacist with specialist knowledge in mental health to work in a highly supportive environment.

 

Key Role Details

  • Job Title: Locum Band 7/8a Mental Health Pharmacist

  • Location: NHS Hospital, Manchester

  • Start Date: Immediate (subject to onboarding)

  • Contract: Ongoing locum assignment

  • Hours: 9am – 5pm (Monday to Friday, minimum 3 days per week – candidate chooses days)

  • Pay Rate: £29 – £36 per hour (DOE), paid weekly every Friday via Hunter AHP

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services across inpatient mental health wards

  • Conduct medicines reconciliation and provide expert input into prescribing decisions

  • Offer specialist advice and guidance to prescribers, nursing staff, and patients on safe and effective use of psychotropic medicines

  • Monitor treatment efficacy and side effects, ensuring adherence to NICE and local guidelines

  • Support multidisciplinary ward rounds and contribute to discharge planning

  • Act as a point of contact for complex queries relating to mental health medicines

 

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully GPhC registered pharmacist

  • Demonstrable mental health pharmacy experience in an NHS setting (essential)

  • Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, clozapine management, and related monitoring requirements

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider MDT
