Overview

We are working with a client in Central London who is looking to appoint an experienced Community Occupational Therapist to join their Social Services team on locum basis, starting ASAP.

Candidates applying must demonstrate a minimum of three years’ post-qualifying experience to qualify for agency EP appointments.

This role focuses on promoting strength-based practice and delivering positive change in people’s lives through the effective use of occupational therapy methods, models, and tools. The aim is to support individuals to maximise independence, improve health and wellbeing, and reduce or delay long-term care needs.


Job Purpose

  • To promote strength-based practice and positive change in people’s lives by using occupational therapy methods, models, and tools to maximise independence and promote health and wellbeing.
  • To provide an Occupational Therapy (OT) service to physically disabled people and those with complex and multiple disabilities, including individuals with mental health conditions.
  • To work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To make professional judgements within relevant legal and policy frameworks.
  • To carry out OT assessments of need and develop person-centred plans using the full range of available resources.
  • To support individuals to be as independent as possible and prevent or delay the development of care and support needs.
  • To reduce existing needs where possible through appropriate intervention.
  • To promote the use of specialist OT knowledge in delivering cost-effective and efficient assessment, intervention, and support for long-term care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive functional assessments in community settings.
  • Develop and implement person-centred intervention plans.
  • Recommend and arrange provision of equipment and major/minor adaptations.
  • Work collaboratively with service users, carers, families, and partner agencies.
  • Apply relevant legislation and policy frameworks (e.g. Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding procedures).
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings and case discussions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant records.
  • Manage a complex caseload independently.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualifying experience (essential for agency EP appointment eligibility).
  • Experience within a community or social services setting.
  • Experience working with adults with physical disabilities and complex needs.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills.
