Welcome to Hunter Gatherer Primary Care, your trusted partner for Advanced Nurse Practitioner recruitment across the UK.

We specialise in placing ANPs into GP surgeries, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), urgent care centres and out-of-hours services, both on a locum and permanent basis.

Whether you need urgent rota cover or a long-term hire, we deliver pre-vetted, ready-to-work ANPs who hit the ground running.

What is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner?

An Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an NMC-registered nurse with postgraduate training – typically at Master’s level or equivalent – who can assess, diagnose, treat and prescribe independently. In primary care, ANPs are a vital part of the clinical workforce, managing complex presentations, leading urgent care clinics and reducing pressure on GPs.

With demand for ANPs continuing to grow across general practice and PCNs, having access to a reliable, specialist recruitment partner makes all the difference.

Why Practices Choose Hunter Gatherer for ANP Staffing:

Rota gaps don’t wait, and neither do we. When you need ANP cover – whether it’s tomorrow or three months from now – our team moves fast without cutting corners on compliance.

  • Pre-vetted and ready to work Every ANP in our network is fully compliance-checked before we ever put their name forward. NMC registration, DBS, indemnity, clinical references – all verified.
  • Specialists in primary care We don’t try to cover every healthcare sector. Primary care is what we do. That means our consultants understand the difference between a same-day urgent care clinic and a complex chronic disease list – and they’ll match you accordingly.
  • Locum and permanent solutions Need cover this week? We can help. Looking to grow your permanent team? We can help with that too. We support practices with flexible, short-notice locum placements and longer-term permanent recruitment.
  • Fast turnaround We aim to send you fully vetted CVs – often within the hour. Tell us the role, the location and the urgency, and we’ll take it from there

ANP Roles and Responsibilities in Primary Care:

ANPs in primary care are trusted to work autonomously across a broad clinical scope. Common responsibilities include:

  • Independent patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment
  • Independent prescribing (V300)
  • Triage and urgent same-day care
  • Management of long-term conditions and chronic disease
  • Home visits and care home rounds
  • Clinical supervision and mentoring of junior staff
  • Contribution to PCN multidisciplinary team (MDT) working

ANP Specialisations We Cover:

Our ANP network covers a wide range of specialisations, including:

  • Urgent & Emergency Care – managing undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations
  • Long-Term Conditions – diabetes, respiratory, cardiovascular and more
  • Minor Illness & Minor Injury – running autonomous clinical sessions
  • Frailty & Elderly Care – supporting complex older patients in primary and community settings
  • Paediatrics – experienced ANPs with children’s health backgrounds

Qualifications We Look For:

Every ANP we place holds:

  • NMC registration (active, with no restrictions)
  • Postgraduate qualification at Master’s level or equivalent
  • Independent prescribing qualification (V300) – required for most primary care roles
  • Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience in a relevant clinical setting
  • Valid DBS, professional indemnity, and up-to-date mandatory training

If you’re an ANP looking to register with us, we’ll guide you through compliance quickly so you can start working as soon as possible.

UK ANP Pay Rates & Salaries (2025/26):

  • Locum ANPs
£50 – £70 per hour – Rates vary depending on location, setting, session type and experience. Weekend, evening and urgent care sessions typically attract a premium. London and South East roles often sit at the higher end.
  • Salaried ANPs
£48,000 – £65,000+ per year – Most salaried ANP roles in primary care align to NHS Agenda for Change Band 7 or Band 8a, depending on the level of autonomy and seniority. Some senior or lead ANP positions -particularly within PCNs – exceed this range.

Rates are regularly reviewed to reflect current market conditions. Our consultants can advise on going rates in your specific area.

The Role of ANPs in UK Primary Care:

ANPs are no longer a supplementary resource – they’re a core part of the modern primary care team. With GP numbers under sustained pressure and patient demand rising, ANPs bridge the gap between nursing and medical roles in a way that genuinely protects patient access and GP workload.

They reduce waiting times, triage urgent presentations, manage complex patients independently, and contribute meaningfully to PCN priorities like enhanced access and care home support. Practices that invest in a strong ANP workforce are better placed to meet QOF targets, reduce locum GP spend, and deliver care that patients trust.

Hunter Gatherer Primary Care helps you build that workforce – quickly, compliantly and without fuss.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Do ANPs need an independent prescribing qualification to work in primary care? For most primary care locum and permanent ANP roles, yes. The V300 independent prescribing qualification is typically required as patients need access to prescribing within consultations. We’ll confirm requirements for each specific role.
  • Can you place ANPs at short notice? Yes. Short-notice and same-day cover is something we handle regularly. Once an ANP is registered and compliant with us, we can mobilise them quickly. Contact us directly for urgent requirements.
  • Do you cover IR35 for locum ANPs? We place locum ANPs both inside and outside IR35 depending on the engagement. Our team will discuss the appropriate arrangement for your situation – whether you’re a practice looking to engage a locum or a clinician considering your options.
  • What areas do you cover? We place ANPs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – including London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow, Cardiff and beyond. If you have a requirement in a specific region, get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s available.
  • How quickly can you send CVs? We aim to send fully vetted CVs within a couple of hours for most requests. For specialist or senior ANP roles, turnaround may take a little longer to ensure the right match.
