We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 7 Physiotherapist to join a Community Learning Disability Health Care Team on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop physiotherapy provision within a dynamic multidisciplinary team supporting adults with learning disabilities.
The post holder will:
Provide professional leadership for the Learning Disability Physiotherapy team.
Contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of physiotherapy services, taking responsibility for specific service improvement projects.
Work as an autonomous, highly specialist practitioner, managing a complex caseload and providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and intervention.
Support and develop the clinical education of physiotherapists, students, and other professionals within the service.
Provide supervision, mentorship, and appraisal for junior physiotherapy staff.
Play an active role in the multidisciplinary team, contributing to holistic, person-centred care for adults with learning disabilities.
Deliver specialist physiotherapy assessments and interventions for adults with learning disabilities and complex physical, sensory, and behavioural needs.
Apply advanced clinical reasoning to develop evidence-based treatment and management plans.
Collaborate closely with health, social care, and voluntary sector colleagues to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
Contribute to and lead on service development initiatives to enhance quality and accessibility.
Ensure high standards of clinical documentation, governance, and adherence to professional codes of practice.
Provide training and advice to colleagues, carers, and partner organisations on physical health and postural management for people with learning disabilities.
Participate in audit, research, and quality improvement projects to promote innovation and best practice.
This Community Learning Disability Health Care Team provides community-based, multidisciplinary support to adults (18+) with learning disabilities across South West London. The service delivers specialist assessment, intervention, and facilitation of access to mainstream health services.
Our approach is person-centred, promoting empowerment, inclusion, and independence. We recognise and respond to the complex physical, mental, and behavioural health needs of individuals, working closely with families, carers, and partner agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes.
HCPC registration as a Chartered Physiotherapist.
Recognised Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
Extensive postgraduate clinical experience working with adults with learning disabilities or complex neurological/physical conditions.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and clinical guidelines.
Experience in community-based or learning disability services.
Postgraduate qualifications or training in specialist areas (e.g., postural management, complex physical disabilities, hydrotherapy).
Experience in service development, audit, or research.
