Job Title: Biomedical Scientist (Haematology/Transfusion) – Band 6
Location: South West England
Duration: ASAP – Ongoing (subject to extension)
Schedule: Monday – Sunday, 37.5 hours per week, 24/7 rota
Start Date: ASAP
Rate of Pay: £25 – 26 ph (umbrella equivalent, DOE)

What You’ll Be Doing
Join our dedicated Haematology and Transfusion team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine and specialist haematology and transfusion tests using both automated and manual techniques

  • Operating, maintaining, and calibrating analysers such as Beckman Coulter and Stago

  • Ensuring compliance with internal quality controls and external accreditation standards (e.g. UKAS, ISO 15189)

  • Validating and reporting accurate and timely laboratory results

  • Supporting the blood bank in the safe provision of blood components

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care

  • Maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to audits and service improvement initiatives

Requirements & Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist

  • Relevant NHS experience in a Haematology and/or Transfusion laboratory

  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems, EQA/IQC procedures, and SOPs

  • Full-time availability (we are unable to offer sponsorship)

  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and teamwork skills

  • A proactive and professional approach to laboratory diagnostics

Working Hours & Contract Duration
This is a full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week across a Monday to Sunday rota. The contract is ongoing with the possibility of extension based on performance and service requirements.
