Locum Dispensary Pharmacist – NHS Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, Hampshire
Hunter AHP have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Dispensary Pharmacist to join the Outpatient Pharmacy team at a busy NHS hospital in Hampshire. This is a fantastic role for a pharmacist with strong dispensary and accuracy checking experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment.
Location: NHS Hospital, Hampshire
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: Ongoing (potential to go permanent)
Working Pattern: 3, 4 or 5 days per week (flexible)
Hourly Rate: £25 – £32 per hour (umbrella, dependent on experience)
Payment Frequency: Weekly
About the Role:
The post holder will be working within the Outpatient Pharmacy team, supporting the safe and efficient supply of medicines to patients attending outpatient clinics. You will be responsible for ensuring prescriptions are clinically screened, accurately dispensed, and safely supplied in accordance with hospital procedures and national legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical screening of outpatient prescriptions in line with hospital and national guidelines
Accurate final checking of dispensed items (ACT qualification not required but desirable)
Supporting dispensary workflow and resolving medication queries
Providing medicines information and advice to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals
Working closely with pharmacy technicians and assistants to ensure smooth daily operations
Maintaining high standards of documentation, stock control and dispensing accuracy
Supporting audit and quality improvement initiatives within the dispensary
Requirements:
GPhC-registered Pharmacist
NHS hospital dispensary experience is essential
Comfortable working in a busy, patient-facing outpatient environment
Strong attention to detail and communication skills
Experience with JAC or similar electronic systems is desirable
This is a great opportunity for a motivated pharmacist seeking a stable and long-term locum role within a supportive team. There is also scope for the role to transition to a permanent post following review.
