We are currently recruiting for a Senior Band 6 Trauma & Orthopaedic Occupational Therapist to join a busy acute hospital in Central London. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced T&O OT seeking a part-time locum role with an immediate start.

Pay Rate: £30 per hour
Location: Central London

Schedule: 2 days per week

The Role

As a Senior Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will deliver a high-quality Trauma & Orthopaedic service across inpatient wards and the day surgery unit. You will manage a varied caseload of trauma and elective orthopaedic patients, providing advanced assessment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning to optimise recovery and promote safe, timely discharges.


Job Summary

  • To provide an advanced occupational therapy service to trauma and elective orthopaedic patients admitted to the inpatient wards and day surgery unit.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner to formulate a diagnosis and management programme according to assessment findings, and to develop and maintain high standards of patient care.
  • To provide advanced functional and occupational therapy assessments and interventions for trauma and orthopaedic patients, often with diverse, complex or multiple pathologies and presentations.
  • To provide advanced assessment, treatment & discharge planning pre- and post-operatively, to minimise length of stay and optimise patient rehabilitation and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive functional assessments for trauma and orthopaedic patients
  • Assess ADLs, mobility, cognition (where appropriate), and home circumstances
  • Provide equipment recommendations and arrange minor/major adaptations
  • Deliver pre- and post-operative rehabilitation to maximise independence
  • Lead discharge planning, including home visits where required
  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, consultants, nursing staff, and the wider MDT
  • Supervise junior staff and students where appropriate
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

Requirements

  • HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
  • Previous Band 6 Trauma & Orthopaedic experience
  • Acute hospital experience essential
  • Strong discharge planning and equipment provision experience
  • Ability to work autonomously within a fast-paced acute setting
