Locum Pharmacy Technician – Mental Health NHS Hospital – London – £15–£24/hour (DOE)

 

Hunter AHP are working with a leading NHS Mental Health Trust in London to recruit an experienced Pharmacy Technicianfor a full-time locum post.

The Trust offers a supportive, multidisciplinary working environment where you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines across inpatient services. This post is ideal for a technician with strong medicines optimisation experience, and ACT accreditation is essential to support dispensary services.

Role Overview:

  • Location: London (accessible via major transport links)

  • Setting: NHS Mental Health Hospital

  • Start Date: ASAP 

  • Contract Length: 3 to 6 months initially, with potential for extension

  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:15pm (37.5 hours/week)

  • Hourly Rate: £15 – £24 per hour (depending on experience and banding)

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Delivering ward-based support, including medicines reconciliation, ordering, and stock reviews

  • Supporting medicines optimisation workstreamsin collaboration with the wider clinical team

  • Providing direct support to pharmacists with medication reviews and patient communication

  • Conducting accuracy checking of inpatient, TTO, and discharge prescriptionsduring dispensary shifts

  • Managing pharmacy stock levels, expiry checks, and controlled drug compliance

  • Documenting all clinical interventions and contributing to service improvement initiatives

  • Liaising with nursing, medical, and pharmacy staff to resolve supply and administration issues

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • GPhC registrationas a Pharmacy Technician (essential)

  • ACT qualification (essential – must be comfortable covering dispensary slots)

  • Proven experience in medicines optimisation, ideally in an NHS or hospital setting

  • Previous mental health experienceis advantageous but not essential – full training and support provided

  • Confident using hospital pharmacy systems and electronic prescribing platforms

  • Excellent organisational, communication, and documentation skills

  • Able to commit to a full-time locum position, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
