Locum Clinical Pharmacist – Band 8a – NHS Hospital – Lancashire – Ward-Based

 

Hunter AHP are currently supporting an NHS Trust in Lancashire with the recruitment of an experienced Clinical Pharmacist for an ongoing locum contract.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist with proven NHS hospital experience on the wards to work in a dynamic and supportive environment. The postholder will be part of a well-established pharmacy team delivering high-quality care across multiple wards.

 

Role Overview:

  • Job Title: Locum Clinical Pharmacist (Band 8a)

  • Location: NHS Hospital, Lancashire

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • Duration: Ongoing contract

  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm

  • Commitment: Flexible – 3, 4, or 5 days per week

  • Hourly Rate: £33 to £37 per hour (dependent on experience, paid via umbrella)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services to a range of inpatient wards, including medical and/or surgical specialties.

  • Conduct medicines reconciliation and reviews for newly admitted patients.

  • Deliver pharmaceutical care planning and optimisation of medicines use.

  • Offer clinical advice to multidisciplinary teams, including consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals.

  • Monitor patient progress and make evidence-based interventions to improve therapeutic outcomes.

  • Ensure safe discharge by reviewing TTOs (to take out medicines) and liaising with community providers as needed.

  • Support antimicrobial stewardship and compliance with local formulary and guidelines.

  • Contribute to audits, service improvement, and governance activities within the pharmacy department.

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • GPhC-registered Pharmacist (Essential)

  • Minimum of 6–12 months’ recent NHS ward-based experience (Essential)

  • Strong clinical knowledge and confidence working independently on the wards

  • Experience in medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, and multidisciplinary communication

  • Ability to work well within a team and manage time effectively

  • Commitment to patient safety and evidence-based care
