Are you a community pharmacist looking to gain hospital experience? We’re recruiting locum pharmacists for outpatient opportunities at Sunderland Royal Hospital, with training and support provided.
This is an opportunity to build your experience in a hospital pharmacy setting on an initial three-month contract. Applications are welcome from community pharmacists keen to develop their skills and pharmacists with existing hospital experience.
Location: Sunderland
Contract: Initial 12 weeks
Start date: Immediate, subject to onboarding
Pay: £24–£28 per hour via umbrella
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Working pattern: Approximately 8:30am–5:30pm, with some flexibility around the agreed schedule
You will support the hospital’s outpatient pharmacy service, helping to ensure medicines are supplied accurately and efficiently while working alongside the pharmacy team.
Depending on the placement, duties may include:
Dispensing and accuracy checking outpatient prescriptions.
Supporting the safe and timely supply of medicines.
Responding to medication queries within your competence.
Following local procedures and working collaboratively with colleagues.
There may also be an opportunity to undertake straightforward accuracy checking within a specialist chemotherapy pharmacy, where prescriptions are clinically screened before checking. The exact duties and training requirements will be discussed before placement.
We welcome applications from GPhC-registered pharmacists who have:
Experience in community or hospital pharmacy.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
A willingness to learn local systems and procedures.
Availability to start promptly and commit to the initial contract.
Previous hospital experience is not essential. Training and support will be provided, making this an opportunity for community pharmacists to gain hospital outpatient experience.
