Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist – Locum Opportunity

Hunter Gatherer AHP are recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join a friendly and supportive Children’s Occupational Therapy Service in Scotland.

This community-based role offers the opportunity to work with children and young people who have a range of developmental, neurological and physical needs, helping them achieve greater independence across everyday activities including self-care, play, education and leisure. The service has a strong focus on neurodevelopmental conditions and works collaboratively across Health, Social Care and Education.

The Role

You will independently manage a varied paediatric caseload, delivering high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions within the most appropriate setting, including homes, schools, nurseries, clinics and virtual appointments.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with children, families, education staff and other professionals to develop person-centred intervention plans that maximise functional outcomes and participation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage an independent community paediatric caseload.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate occupational therapy interventions for children and young people.

  • Deliver therapy within homes, schools, nurseries, clinics and via virtual appointments.

  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, schools and Health & Social Care professionals.

  • Assess functional abilities relating to self-care, education, play and leisure.

  • Complete equipment and adaptation assessments where appropriate.

  • Support children with a wide range of conditions including:

    • Neurodevelopmental conditions

    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

    • ADHD

    • Cerebral Palsy

    • Developmental Delay

    • Neurological and musculoskeletal conditions

  • Take a lead role in supporting and developing the neurodevelopmental pathway within the Occupational Therapy service.

  • Provide advice, education and skill-sharing sessions for families, education staff and multidisciplinary colleagues.

  • Contribute to service development, clinical audits, research and evidence-based practice.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives across Occupational Therapy and wider AHP services.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and manage caseload priorities effectively.

  • Participate in clinical supervision and CPD activities.

  • Support and supervise junior staff and Occupational Therapy students where appropriate.

Requirements

  • HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist.

  • Previous UK Paediatric Occupational Therapy experience.

  • Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Community paediatric experience is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy caseload.

  • Full UK driving licence is desirable.
